Guys, Girls, and Gaming
I’ve been seeing this everywhere now. Girls complaining about guys and their gaming habit. From anywhere between 2-10 hours a day they just get pissed. Well not all of us are like that. Personally I love games. Their are some great titles out there and you just have to be willing to give them a chance. I stared out as a casual gamer but then converted to the real deal later on…but that’s another story.
This is the video that sparked my anger. Yes it’s probably fake as the acting seems really lame but it’s just the fact that things like this really happen all the time and for the dumbest reasons.
I’m just sick of the whining. The fact of the matter is that there are guys that like to game a lot, those that play casually, and those that hate them all together. My advice to a girl would have to be to find a guy that has the same game preferences as she does unless she is open to new things. Video games open up an entirely new world for people. It’s entertainment. It’s like any other hobby whether it be playing the guitar, watching movies all day, or reading a book. It’s how these people get their fun and their escape. I know it’s hard for some girls to understand, but really you don’t have to if you don’t want to. If a guy’s gaming habits are affecting your relationship so much that there is no room for compromise then maybe it’s not meant to be. Changing a person is the worst thing you can do. Don’t try to change who guys are. You can’t be picky, you can’t complain, you just have to accept it or don’t. Some girls don’t even give them a chance, they just assume that all games suck and it’s stupid. But HEY, don’t knock it til you try it. And what do you know! Lots of guys think that girl gamers are hot! It’s like that age old image of a woman working on a old car only it’s less messy and less confusing! So my main point in this whole long angry rant is to understand that it’s not just a toy, it’s something to beat and enjoy. Stop bashing the guys ladies!
I really feel as if most guys have this mental image of girls bashing their systems and blowing up if they even mention that they’d rather stay in an play some Modern Warfare. It’s like we’re all supposed to fit this stereotype that we all hate every game ever made. Don’t be afraid to say that you LOVE your Xbox 360 (or other gaming console…yes I’m a bit biased but I’m saving up for that PS3!). A lot of guys think that this will turn a girl off immediately and she’ll think you’re a loser.
My advice to guys is to ease their girlfriend into the world that you love! Sure she’s going to be annoyed just watching YOU play! I’m not going to sit here and give a whole play by play on how to do this because there are SO MANY other sites out there that have tips on how to get your girl to love games (unless someone ask me to). But basically…..Don’t be a jerk, don’t DEMOLISH HER in a PvP match, until she gets better let her win sometimes (but don’t be obvious), don’t get violent when the game gets rough, and try to incorporate games that she might like too (not every girl is going to be turned on by ‘Halo’). Oh yeah. Remember that some girls will never like video games so just be understanding and try to get that it’s just not her thing.
Well this is my tidbit for now. Had to blow off some steam there.
